The Australian and New Zealand governments have agreed to establish a single, joint body to set food standards. A comprehensive review of the existing standards in both countries will be necessary to produce a Joint Food Standards Code, which, it is hoped, will facilitate trading.
It is planned that the National Food Authority (NFA) will set standards
for both countries, and that a New Zealand representative will
be included on its Board.
